45th Dowling Commencement
Written by Benjamin Kenobi |
On May 22, 2007 members of cohort 8
graduated from the Ed.D of Dowling program at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Graduates of the doctoral program have earned the degree of Doctor
of
Educational Administration, Leadership and Technology.
It has been almost three years since cohort
8 first
started classes June 3, 2004. Dr. Rudiger was the
first professor the cohort worked with and the course he taught was Theory 1.
During the 2004 summer semester, the cohort finished four courses ranging
from basic research with Dr. Morote to ethnography studies with Dr. Mann.
Since starting this endeavor,
cohort 8 has completed twenty
two courses, many
papers and PowerPoint presentations, and a small project
called a dissertation.
The commencement was flawless. The
day started early with graduates arriving at the coliseum at 8:00 a.m..
The procession started at 10:30 a.m. and the doctoral students were the first to
be announced to the crowd and walk across the stage to receive their diplomas
and shake hands with President Gaffney. As a matter of fact, doctoral
students are honored to be the only students crossing the stage throughout the
entire proceedings. The 45th commencement ended at 12:30 p.m.. All friends and family
were invited to the
commencement, with open seating available. Dowling promised a great time and a ceremony that
would go off without a
hitch, and they delivered one memorable day.

ceremony.

Dr. Nicolino Named
Principal at Bay Elementary School
Written by Padamé
Amadala |
This July marked the naming
of a new Principal in the Patchogue-Medford
School District. The Board of Education named
Dr. Peter A. Nicolino Principal of the Bay
Avenue Elementary School on July 2, 2007. Eager
about his new position, Dr. Nicolino said "This
has been a dream of mine for a long time. I am
very excited about working with the staff at Bay
Elementary."
Dr. Nicolino has been
working in education for the past eighteen
years, and started his administrative career
three years ago in Patchogue-Medford as an
Assistant Principal at Oregon Middle School. "I
will miss the Oregon staff and the warmth I felt
from the faculty", Dr. Nicolino commented.
Prior to coming to Bay Elementary, Dr. Nicolino
has fifteen years of experience teaching fourth,
fifth, and sixth grade students in the South
Huntington School District. In addition, his
doctoral dissertation involved the surveying of
kindergarten through fifth grade teachers,
measuring their knowledge and comfort level when
working with Learning Style Assessments,
Differentiated Instruction, and Instructional
Technology.
Assuming his new role as
Principal at Bay Elementary on July 9, 2007, Dr.
Nicolino has begun to settle in and become
familiar with the "Bay" way. "I was greeted
with open arms when I arrived at Bay Elementary,
and already feel part of the Bay family", Dr.
Nicolino concluded. |

Dr. Nicolino to Present at
SITE Conference
Written by Ken Yastrub |
|
March of 2008 Dr. Nicolino will be
presenting at the SITE International
Conference. The topic of discussion
will focus around Dr. Nicolino's
research involving Differentiated
Instruction, Learning Style Assessments
and Instructional Technology.
Dr. Elsa-Sofia
Morote, Dr. Robert Manley and Dr.
Nicolino published an article based upon
the dissertation research of Dr.
Nicolino. The research revolved around
the measuring of teacher knowledge and
comfort using Instructional Technology
to Differentiate Instruction and apply
Learning Style Assessments in a
classroom. "This is the second year I
have been accepted to present at SITE",
Dr. Nicolino stated. Two years ago Dr.
Nicolino presented at the SITE
conference in Orlando, Florida. The
presentation revolved around gender
differences in confidence when using
technology and the research was
coordinated with Dr. Kevin Maser and Dr.
Bradley Fitzgerald.
Dr. Nicolino continues to work in
Patchogue-Medford as Principal of Bay
Elementary, and as the school year moves
on Dr. Nicolino has worked closely with
the parents and teachers of the
Patchogue community.
"This
year marked the 100th year that Bay
Elementary has been servicing the
Patchogue community and it was a
pleasure to rub elbows with the mayor,
town supervisor, assemblywoman, school
board president and school
superintendent on such a milestone for
the community", Dr. Nicolino remarked.
As the school year continues, so does
Dr. Nicolino's compassion for helping
children learn. |
